Early Years Parent Orientation Recap

A summary of the orientation session by the head of the Early Years

Dear Early Years Parents,

It was wonderful to see you during the past few weeks at our Parent Orientation evenings. Thank you to all who were able to attend. We hope that you enjoyed meeting your child’s teachers, visiting their classrooms and learning about the PYP in the Early Years Program. We are happy to have begun an important dialogue with you about your child’s learning and hope to continue building a strong partnership together.

In case you were unable to attend the orientation sessions, below are a few important points to be aware of.

Parent-Teacher Meetings on October 4, 5, 6, and 7:
Our first Parent-Teacher Meetings will be held in early October. The purpose of these meetings will be to learn more from you about your child. Teachers will take this opportunity to get to know your child’s cultural, academic and social background, which will allow teachers to work more effectively with your child and better meet his/her needs throughout the year. Meetings will last 20 minutes and will be held on October 4, 5, 6 and 7 from 2:15pm-4:00pm. You will receive your appointment time in your child’s communication folder on Tuesday. We will make every effort to accommodate your needs to the best of our ability. 

Literacy Information Sessions for Parents:
As part of our commitment to building a strong home-school partnership, we are planning to hold information sessions for parents to learn more about literacy development in the Early Years at each stage. During these sessions, you will learn about the literacy learning outcomes for each stage (Nursery, KG1 and KG2), as well as how literacy instruction is integrated into our curriculum. We will also discuss the many ways that you as parents can best support your child’s literacy development. These sessions will be held on Tuesday Oct. 18 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

Managebac:
Managebac is our online portal for parent communication. Through it you will be receiving the Week in Review, a newsletter prepared by each community, which provides an overview of the week’s activities. Teachers provide valuable information through the Week in Review and we strongly encourage parents to read it each week.
